Beauty Bible Loves... Sophie James Mayfair The Moth Room Spray

Yes, this is called ‘The Moth’. Which is a weird name for a room spray, until you know its story.

One of the key fragrance notes at the heart of this spray - from a proudly London-based, mother-and-daughter-founded home fragrance brand – is patchouli, a plant whose leaves were interwoven with fabrics brought back by 19th Century silk traders, to prevent pesky moths from destroying their cargo.

We’ve a soft spot for patchouli, at Beauty Bible, often drawn to scents which feature this note – but here, this earthy element swirls alongside blackcurrant, bergamot and apple, a peppery rose and birch, a twine or two of jasmine, sandalwood and musk. Though there are floral notes, this is unisex, almost masculine – not a pretty-pretty scent, and with that fabulous woodiness to tether it. (The formula is alcohol-free, and can be spritzed as often as you like.)

Currently, this is what the office smells of – but we’ve another use to recommend, for room sprays, which is to take them when staying in an Airbnb or a strange hotel room. They never smell quite like ‘home’, do they? But a few spritzes upon arrival with a scent that we know and love from our own space somehow changes up the atmoshere (literally, too), and makes anywhere feel more welcoming.

This, then, is the only moth we hope to find in our suitcase, this summer.
