Little Pieces of Hope: Happy-Making Things in a Difficult World

Sometimes, we stumble across a book that really does lift the spirits, deserving of a space on the bedside table for morning #inspo.

We can’t remember how Little Pieces of Hope, written by Todd Doughty, made it onto our radar, but we’re so, so glad that it did. This is a book that’s all about appreciation, with pages of lists of things that are mostly free, to stop, take notice of and enjoy the moment. Those might be books, TV shows, films, sunsets and other nature observations… all of which sounds terribly insignificant, but honestly, we have reached a point in our lives when it’s the small pleasures that matter most.

It's worth pointing out that this is an American book and a few of the cultural recommendations are a bit US-centric, but mostly, it’s all 100% appreciate-able (that is not a word, but it should be) by those of us on this side of the pond.

The title really does sum this up, actually. This is a tricky world to navigate, with some very big world and domestic problems, most of which we’re powerless to solve.

But noticing a flock of starlings, mindfully enjoying the froth off your barista coffee or being reminded of a classic black-and-white movie that deserves a re-watch?  Honestly, the world does seem a more hopeful place when a list from this cheery-covered book becomes part of your daily ritual.
