Beauty Bible Loves... Jones Road Minimalist Defining Mascara

We’re always nervous trying a new mascara, especially one from a brand we really rate. Why? Because so often, we’re disappointed.

Well, not this time! Bobbi Brown's Jones Road has expanded its lash offering with Minimalist Defining Mascara – a second string to their mascara bow, after the original volumising formula. ‘Defining’ is always word that pushes our buttons, lash-wise, because (on Jo’s eyes, anyway), volumising formulas tend to skate right over lashes without depositing very much at all.

The first coat wasn’t terribly impressive, actually. Definitely ‘minimalist’ (might suit if you realy, really don’t want to look like you’re wearing anythng). But Jo thought she’d give it a second coat (oh, why not) – and ker-pow! That second sweep really defined and lifted and generally, like a magic wand, gave the impression that Jo has way, w-a-y more lashes than she was naturally blessed with.

Genuinely non-clumping and non-smudging (nothing on cheeks by the end of the day), it leaves lashes conditioned with a peptide blend, vitamin B5 and glycerin, aiming it squarely at lashes that thin or shorten with age. (Yup. Know all about that.)

The wand is the real genius here: slim, lightly curved, easy to manoeuvre into inner and outer corners and along the lower lash line. Application technique follows our pal Bobbi’s signature method – starting at the root, wiggling slightly to separate, then pulling through to the tip. It comes in oh-so-fashionable Rich Brown, although we still always veer towards black – here, Pitch Black.

We needn’t have been nervous at all – this is a real keeper.
