Award-Winning Tinted Moisturisers
The low-down on the hint-of-a-tint products testers loved best We completely swear by tinted moisturisers at this time of year - and so do most women we know. (Especially as there's been no sun to speak of yet!) As ever, though, the challenge is knowing which ones to splash out on: some are just not moisturising enough, others too shiny. Happily, each year this is one of the Tried & Tested categories YOU Magazine asks us to look at for their Summer Sun Special. So earlier this summer, our panellists put loads of tinted moisturisers through their paces - 10 women per product, as per usual. Here's what they loved, with lots of product details and real-life comments, to give you a true insight into performance.
BEAUTY STEAL No 7 Triple Protection Tinted Moisturiser SPF15 Score: 7.75/10 In three shades (Beauty Bible’s testers had the middling Fair/Medium), this promises moderate sun protection (SPF15 and UVA five-star), delivered in a lightweight creamy formula with vitamins A and E, for a radiantly natural finish. It also features hyaluronic acid - one of our all-time favourite ingredients - to provide 24-hour moisturisation, as well as 'optical pigments' which help to blur lines. Oh, and we always like it when a 'Beauty Steal' (i.e. an affordable product) comes top in its category! (Although to be fair, it did tie for first place with Wild About Beauty's identical score.)
Comments: ‘I am very impressed with this smooth silky product, which blended seamlessly; I needed extra moisturiser in cooler months but fine alone in warmer weather’ • ‘disguised small blemishes and I didn't need anti-redness product underneath’ • ‘mattifies skin, yet leaves a slight healthy-looking sheen’ • 'easy to blend and provided perfect coverage on a "no-make-up" day'; would be brilliant for anyone who doesn't like the feel of foundation on their skin' • 'super-comfortable to wear'.
NATURAL WONDER Wild About Beauty Sheer Glow Moisture Tint SPF20 Score: 7.75/10 We love Louise Redknapp's new paraben-free range, featuring lots of cult favourites that are going down a storm with our fellow beauty editors, too. (If you don't yet know Wild About Beauty, head to a Debenhams store and check it out - find their storefinder here.) More natural than most (no petrochemicals/silicones/parabens), this a soft-textured moisturiser with an illuminating finish. Three shades are available - we trialled 02 Beige – and it features a very useful SPF20.
Comments: ‘Great everyday tinted glow look that covered enough to feel confident, skin looked radiant and plumper’ • ‘went on incredibly evenly, and absolutely enhanced radiance – I felt so much perkier on a very grey day!’ • ‘I really loved this product – I looked as though I’d had a weekend away’ • 'my skin definitely looks 100% better with this product on; it glides on easily and is really easy to blend' • 'nice and velvety to apply, delivering a youthful glow to my skin'.
LUXURY Benefit You Rebel Tinted Moisturizer SPF15 Score: 7.67/10 Benefit’s winner delivers a light wash of colour, leaving skin slightly dewy – and protects against damage, with an SPF15, too. This is a super-smooth formula packed with vitamins A, E and aloe vera, but with just one shade available. Testers found, though, that it did work on different skintones. (It's also available as a 'Lite' version, for oilier skins - although our panellists didn't try this.)
Comments: ‘I really love this product; goes on smoothly (over my usual moisturiser), evens out my skin tone and leaves a lovely luminosity’ • ‘covered my open pores, small blemishes and uneven pigmentation well, left skin looking radiant all day’ • 'really impressed with colour, coverage and results' • 'my skin felt very soft - as if I was wearing moisturiser underneath' • 'when I opened the tube I was alarmed at how orange the product appeared; fearing a "footballer's wives" look, I applied it tentatively but it looks gorgeous!' • 'as a person who hates foundation this is a great find: gives a glow to the skin and moisturises effectively' • 'a friend asked me if I was using something different, as my skin looked so good'.
