Beauty Clinic: The hunt for the perfect tinted moisturiser

Q. I’m searching for a tinted moisturiser that is natural-looking but not too sheer as I need a little blemish-blurring coverage. Does such a thing exist? A. Yes indeed it does! This year – after lots of testing by the Beauty Bible team – we can give you the lowdown on some fantastic options. Firstly, like legions of devotees, we love Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser SPF20/£34 at www.johnlewis.com (it’s widely available online and in-store). It comes in a wide range of shades and we always suggest going to a counter first to get the best shade for you.

While many tinted moisturisers really aren’t that moisturising, this really is so gives a lovely dewy finish - although those with dry skins may need to layer on top of a serum or light moisturiser. It is light as a feather but gives enough coverage to even out most skin tones. If you need a bit extra, just dot a little concealer on top. Oh, and it is long lasting.

Secondly, we recommend Crème de la Mer The Reparative Skintint SPF30/£65 in five shades (again, if possible, do try them at a counter before buying). This does recommend smoothing over skin after applying your moisturiser. As well as giving you a gorgeous wash of glowing colour, it contains the legendary skin-renewing Miracle Broth and a host of other supportive ingredients.

Lastly (and by no means least), we want to bring to your notice Erborian CC Crème/£17 for a try me 15ml. sample from www.spacenk.com. This South Korean brand (which we do urge you to explore) has formulated a colour correct product that starts out neutral-coloured and then, Abracadabra!, adjusts its shade to your skin tone – with an extra glow. The label proclaims it a ‘high definition radiance skin perfector’ – and we agree.

Finally, you will notice that the first two recommendations both have an SPF. Of course, all sun protection is useful but please remember it does not take the place of a dedicated sunscreen if you are out in day long sun.
