Sign up for British Beauty Weekend (from wherever you are)

Oh, how we are missing live events, launches and beauty conferences. But our friends at the British Beauty Council will be working to recreate that excitement with a series of sessions kicking off today and continuing tomorrow and Saturday that are largely slanted at beauty insiders (of whom many visit this site), but with some fascinating stuff for regular beauty-hounds, too.

Here’s just a taster of what’s on offer – all the sessions are free, but you need to sign up via Eventbrite, to attend. (Because unlike in previous years, you don’t need to be within striking distance of London to take part in this. Every cloud, eh…?)

TODAY

2 p.m. For anyone studying STEM subjects, here’s a session to explore the possibility of working in the cosmetics world: British Science Association will host an event exploring the careers of some of the country's leading cosmetic scientists. Our expert panel will discuss cosmetic science and the stereotypes that surround the science and cosmetics industries. Sign up here

6 p.m. We’ll be glued to The Future of Beauty Commerce, from E-Commerce to Discovery Commerce. Hosted by Facebook this session focuses on a new approach to marketing in the digital era, focusing on a consumer journey that starts well before intent. Even more relevant now as we re-emerge from COVID-19 and people are spending less time browsing in stores, Discovery Commerce opens up new sources of demand for businesses and delights consumers with products and services they will love. TOMORROW (30th October 2020)

10 a.m. The first of the Career Talks is How to Become a Brand: British Beauty Council's President of Pillar, Education, Elizabeth Barnett-Lawton talks to a panel of industry experts and leaders about their careers in beauty and advice for upcoming beauty brands and creators. Kicking off our 2021 initiative within our Education Pillar which will focus on careers and recruitment. Sign up here

1 p.m. Looking at how the past few months have been a time of pivoting and resourcefulness, we have Creativity out of COVID: Supporting British Beauty. Hosted by Jo Jones, co-founder of Beauty Banks. This panel will celebrate and support British beauty brands, offering advice and guidance for brand owners and innovators starting out on their brand journey. 6 p.m. We’re also very much looking forward to The Future of Hair, supported by British Beauty Patron Babyliss Pro and moderated by The Telegraph's Beauty Director Sonia Haria this session will explore the hair trends and innovations for 2021. The creativity and resilience of hairdressers over the last 6 months has been remarkable and we hear from leading experts about what they think will be the future of the hair industry and what salon owners & hair stylists should strive for and expect. Sign up here

SATURDAY (31st)

10 a.m. Something a little different – and unmissable… Our friend Lisa Potter-Dixon will be taking over the British Beauty Council Instagram – one of the UK’s most-loved makeup artists, a three-times best selling author, and co-host of the @5favesoftheweek podcast. She will share inspiring morning motivations, rituals as well as makeup and skincare tips and tricks to start your day. Follow them @britishbeautycouncil

11 a.m., also on Instagram Live. Join Emilie Spire, Investor at venture capital firm Felix Capital, as she answers investment queries and offers business advice on raising investment during challenging times as well the best ways to build your business on a budget

Another Instagram Live, at 12.30 p.m. on @britishbeautycouncil around the idea that consumers are increasingly demanding more from the brands they buy from. Our Advisory Board Member, CEO and founder of Feel Good Fellowship & Bespoke Banter, Scott Wimsett will be joined by Aisling Connaughton, founder of CYD Connects Ltd, to discuss the work and purpose of the Feel Good Fellowship, alongside the importance of transparency and sustainability in the beauty industry.

2 p.m. Are you looking for tips on how to use the power of social media to build your business and social media presence? If so listen in on Instagram Live for some great social media insights from our friend and founder of The Glow Getter Collective, Marketing & Social Media Strategist for Natural Beauty Brands, Ailish Lucas..

6 p.m. Have you heard about the #ChopTheVAT campaign? Well, Exec Director of the the Professional Beauty Group and British Beauty Council Advisory Board Member, Jayne Lewis-Orr together with founder of Adam Reed Hair & Global Ambassador for L'Oréal Professionnel,  GHD and The Green Salon CollectiveAdam Reed will takeover the British Beauty Council Instagram to celebrate, support and promote salons and the British hair industry.
