BRONZER

Whether you like your bronzer to be entirely shimmer-free or with a touch of gleam, you’ll find your perfect sun-kissed match in this winning line-up. All but one – the Clinique powder – will require you to apply with your own bronzer brush (like a blusher brush but ideally even fatter and fluffier, for the most seamless results.)

GOLD AWARD Temple Spa Gorgeous Glow

Temple Spa have excelled across so many categories in these Awards – and less well-known than their stellar skincare and bodycare is the fact that they offer a handful of make-up products, too. With a seamlessly smooth, soft-focus powder formula in a perfect flushed bronze shade (there’s just one tone), this high-scoring sleek mirrored compact offers a great instant sunshine pick-me-up, delivering a hint of radiance. Very welcome on a winter day (swoosh it over cheeks), without making you look like you’re faking it.

OUR TESTERS' COMMENTS:

‘Very easy to use; you could use fingers or a sponge but I preferred a brush. It needed a few sweeps to build up to a healthy ‘gorgeous glow’. It gave a matte effect, which I prefer to make my skin shiny and worked really well with my usual makeup.  The colour didn't fade at all during the day. I liked the pretty silver mirrored compact, which was a bit stiff to open at first but got easier with use’ • ‘I made sure not to load the brush too much and tapped off excess before applying. It blended evenly and smoothly and gave an even tone, which was lovely and natural. The packaging is very pretty and the mirror is a bonus’ • ‘You don't need too much as the pigment is good; if you do over apply you need to blend fairly vigorously! It worked well with powder foundation and blush, giving a lightweight, natural (as long as you apply lightly), matte but not dry look’ • ‘When I first received this compact I was worried it was too dark but a little goes a long way and it gives a dewy glow that sits beautifully on the skin and lasted all day’ • ‘I liked this bronzer. Very easy to use and quite a subtle colour (despite looking dark in the compact) which went well on my medium neutral-toned Caucasian skin’ • ‘I loved the packaging, the description the wording and the actual product. I am going to look to buy more temple spa products now I have had the experience of this one. Thank you so much Beauty Bible!’

CliniqueTrueBronzePressedPowderBronzer.jpg

SILVER (JOINT) AWARD Clinique True Bronze Pressed Powder Bronzer

Ignore the fact that many of the online photos of this blusher show a brush – it doesn’t actually come with one. Leaving that aside, the oil-free formula is lightweight and long-wearing, blending easily into skin (with your own fluffy brush). There’s a mirror in the bronze-lidded compact, which comes in two shades – tawny Sunblushed, and slightly pinkier-toned Sunkissed, which our testers were dispatched.

OUR TESTERS' COMMENTS:

‘Fabulous! I loved this powder. It blended beautifully using a brush or sponge giving lovely even coverage. You could build it up for a deeper glow or just have a light tint. I found it lasted me all day. I didn’t touch it up at all! It is easy to use and feels very light on the skin. I am converted’ • ‘I liked the no fuss, mirrored compact and this pressed powder bronzer gave a natural looking glow, which was easy to build up and long wearing. The matte finish stayed matte for a couple of hours; I reapplied after three to four hours. I would buy this’ • ‘This blended well on top of my foundation, giving a nice dewy glow with a little shimmer’ • ‘It didn't sink in to the skin but didn't sit on top either; it blended really well and looked flawless on my skin. It worked well with both liquid and powder foundation - slightly better with the powder foundation as it blended more with it. It was quite sheer but buildable to the level of colour that you wanted.  It didn't look caked on. The subtle sheen helps with a flawless finish’ • ‘Gave a lovely shimmer to my current tan. Worked a treat for a natural subtle glow and I will buy more when it runs out.’

LauraGellerBakedBronzenBrighten.jpg

SILVER (JOINT) AWARD Laura Geller Baked Bronze ‘n’ brighten

American make-up artist Laura Geller savvily built her brand via QVC, the online shopping channel, after a career working behind the scenes with socialites and celebriites. Hugely popular with viewers, this was deemed by our testers to be a brilliant find, with its marbled swirl of bronze pigments. Like her Beauty Bible Award-winning blusher, it’s baked in Italy on terracotta tiles, giving us a silky dome of powder with a luminous, radiant finish – and not a speck of orange tone anywhere.

OUR TESTERS' COMMENTS:

‘Top marks! Very easy to apply; I just swirled the brush around and swept it on my skin, then buffed it in for a very natural finish with a hint of colour, which blended with my complexion. Not something I would normally use but I found this so incredibly easy to get a natural finish that I would buy it. It covers well, lasts all day and when used with foundation just makes you look healthier with a natural glow’ • ‘Love Laura’s products; I’ve used them for years and will continue to do so. This bronzer is fabulous’ • ‘It claims to deliver a sun-kissed colour without any orange and it definitely does! Love it’ • ‘Brilliant product. After never using a bronzer before I’m now hooked on this, as it’s so easy to use and build up coverage if needed. I have had lots of compliments on how well I look. It’s so natural looking’ • ‘Love, love, LOVE this bronzer, it’s so light and natural looking but at the same time leaves your skin looking fresh and healthy without any trace of orange. It’s a perfect size to go in my handbag and the fact it comes with a mirror is ideal too. It looks like a powder but goes on like a cream with no powdery effect at all. Gorgeous!’

CharlotteTilburyFilmstarBronze&Glow.jpg

BRONZE AWARD Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow

Filmstarry name, filmstarry palette, with its glam rose gold finish. This wide compact flips open to reveal not only the winning blusher but a highlighter, too (a long-time favourite of Jo’s for brows and a dot on eyelids to bring light to the eye zone). The bronze side features a slightly pearlised blend of pearl and pigment that delivers very even coverage – but if you like your bronzer matte, you may find this a tad twinkly.

OUR TESTERS' COMMENTS:

‘I really liked this. The pretty mirrored compact gives you a bronzer and highlighter side by side; you need your own brush/brushes to apply. The bronzer was easy to apply and looked quite natural on the skin, giving a natural sun kissed look with a little shimmer. I would buy it’ • ‘Top marks: I love how natural this bronzer is; even if you load the brush it blends so easily and doesn't look heavy or cake-y. Easy to build up the colour. A new favourite! The highlighter is not overly shimmery but subtle and illuminating. Love that too!’ • ‘Beautiful packaging and textures. The colours are great and very natural. It’s very impressive for a full evening face but if I followed the guidelines for creating my ‘Hollywood’ look I would feel far too sparkly for daytime!’ • ‘This silky bronzer was very easy to apply with the accompanying brush and did blend well – it sits on the complexion beautifully and looks soft, smooth and also luminous due to the pearlescent finish’ • ‘Loved the beautiful rose gold heavy weight compact, beautifully engraved too. I’ve been a little scared of bronzer because of my age but it went on smoothly, lasted for hours without fading – it didn't need topping up during the day – and gave a matte finish that was somehow dewy’ • ‘You can apply this very fine light powder with fingers but I prefer a brush. It worked well with other make up and sat well on my skin.’
