Score: 7.65/10
From a Scandinavian brand that’s making waves in spa circles, this no-colour lip protector blends wild-harvested beeswax and canola oil, adding a refreshing twist of breath-freshening peppermint and orange alongside the sun protection.
Comments: ‘Loved this; left lovely moisturising protective coating - also good for overnight treatment’ • ‘shiny glossy lips, good over matte lipstick; lasted well’ • ‘minty/orange flavour fine except when drinking a cup of tea!’ • ‘gave slight tingling sensation like lip plumper’ • ‘best thing was the appealing aroma’ • ‘easy to dispense, very little needed, biodegradable box’.
Natio Moisturising Lip Balm SPF30+, £7 from www.debenhams.com; find it on-line here.
Score: 7.36/10
A higher-than-average SPF for this natural choice – which was originally created for the baking Aussie sunshine. Contains lip-softening vitamin E plus healing and cooling aloe vera to moisturise and soothe. Two testers gave it full marks.
Comments: ‘10/10! Really liked this – it healed my chapped lips, lasted quite a while, and added clear gloss to lips bringing out natural colour so I didn’t need lipstick’ • ‘particularly good at night to give lovely lips in the morning’ • ‘no real flavour or taste which is a plus for me; easy, simple and effective, very good moisturiser’ • ‘nice and moisturising but never sticky, and gave a nice shine; will definitely buy’.
BEAUTY STEAL Garnier Ambre Solaire SPF20 Lip Protection Stick, £3.79 at www.superdrug.com; click here to find it on-line.
Score: 7.8/10
What sets Garnier’s suncare apart from the crowd is a high-performance patented SPF ingredient called Mexoryl XL™, which (unlike most) doesn’t break down when exposed to UV light – so offers turbo-charged protection. Another one that gained two sets of top marks.
Comments: ‘Top marks! Left lips smooth and moisturised, not sticky; tastes nice, good price and seemed to last all day’ • ‘liked that it had natural oils rather than petroleum based oils which dry my lips out’ • ‘very pleased with this Beauty Bible find! A must-have for summer’ • ‘does exactly what you want and cheap at the price’ • ‘liked the good robust packaging’ • ‘very moisturising but not sure about the slight white film on lips’.
Ole Henriksen Fresh Lips SPF15, £10 from www.feelunique.com; find it on-line here.
Score: 6.62/10
California-based Ole is one of our favourite facialists, and no doubt (on the strength of his stellar following) this is slicked across many a Hollywood pout. The 'fresh' refers to the zingy menthol flavour, which also enhances circulation (possibly making you that bit more Angelina-esque), while beta-hydroxy acids help keep lip skin smooth.
Comments: ‘Soaked into lips, keeping them moisturised, no sticky or greasy residue, needed to reapply every hour or so’ • ‘pleasant hint-of-mint taste, good packaging’ • ‘really appealing scent and superbly silky texture’ • ‘felt lovely on lips and will buy again’ • ‘felt much better than my usual Vaseline’ • ‘worked as a lip gloss too’.
