CRÈME DE LA MER'S TIPS FOR PRISTINE SEAS
We recently went to a fab Crème de la Mer catch-up where we got reintroduced to their products. You’ll probably know, of course, that a specific marine algae is the key ingredient in this luxe range, and so for Crème (as we call them in the biz), it makes sense that their ‘corporate social responsibility’ activity (CSR) is in some way linked with the oceans. What they’ve put together is a list of ways that we can all get involved with keeping the oceans clean and healthy – for us and for future generations. We liked the list, so – this being summer, and seaside-y, and us (as authors of The Green Beauty Bible) being pretty green ourselves– we asked if we could reproduce it here…
• Reduce the amount of disposable products you buy. Every year tonnes of plastic, paper and glass pollute the seas and disrupt the ocean ecosystem.
• Eat sustainably. Enjoy eco-friendly seafood and encourage your local supermarkets and restaurants to make responsible choices that promote the health of our oceans and our bodies.
• When you and your family and friends enjoy time at the beach this summer, make sure you leave things the same way that you found them. You are a guest and should not take anything with you or leave anything behind.
• Clean up! Take the time to properly recycle your rubbish and pick up any litter you see on beaches and around ocean habitats.
• Encourage teamwork! Organise a beach clean-up and help educate your local community about ocean issues. When you act locally, you advance worldwide change.
• Practice safe fishing, boating and beach going. Aquatic life is fragile, stay on paths and leave a respectful distance from any wildlife you encounter. Follow speed limits and stay away from protected areas.
• Save energy and reduce your carbon footprint. Take your bike or public transport, use high efficiency appliances in your home, turn off appliances when they are not in use and switch to energy efficient light bulbs. All of these actions help cut the amount of carbon dioxide that contributes to the acidification of our seas.
• Inspire children to act sustainably from an early age. A respect and appreciation of the sea lasts a lifetime.
• Think global – the oceans cover over 70 percent of the earth’s surface and interconnect widespread civilisations and cultures. Our individual actions have far-reaching effects and can cause serious damage and destruction or positive improvements. |
