I have high colouring – not just a tint of rosiness after a drink or two, but permanent redness. This is not due to acne rosacea or any other ‘condition’; I have had it since I was a child and it is really difficult to get make-up to look right. I currently use Estée Lauder Double Wear - which is great - but I have to apply a few layers. I want the finished look to be as natural as possible and have tried makes such as Dermablend but they end up looking like a mask. I am thinking of trying a concealer foundation by La Prairie, but obviously this is an expensive option. Any suggestions?

As quite a ‘pink’ person, Jo has this advice: ‘My favourite foundation for tackling this problem is Lancôme Teint Idôle Hydra-Compact, from £19.50 for the re-fill – which is what I use, rather than the somewhat bulky compact itself. It offers good, highly-pigmented, dense coverage - but not as heavy as Dermblend. I just press it into the skin where I have the problem, and apply more lightly elsewhere. I’ve also been having good results with Revlon’s new Colorstay Stay Natural Concealer, £6.29, which uses a long-lasting technology so it stays put very impressively, again applied just where I need it and blended. With the skin “challenge” of being naturally flushed, it is tempting to apply make-up to cover everything – but be warned: that’s when the “mask” effect happens. My advice: stick to areas of broken veins, rather than all-over high colour, and just try and enjoy your English rosiness. There are plenty of very pale, washed-out women out there who’d like a bit of our high colouring!’
